One of the best ways of seeing Chicago that I found was to buy an all day pass for the Hop On Hop Off tour. The first thing I did was to ride the entire route – OK, so it wasn’t perhaps the best use of time being as it took over an hour and a half, but I did get to see parts of the city that I wouldn’t otherwise I’ve seen. The route is approximately 13 miles long and stops at some of Chicago’s major tourist sightseeing attractions.

The idea with this tour is that you get on at one of the designated bus stops, and then get off at the next place that appeals to you. When you’re finished there, you go back to the bus stop and jump on the next one that comes along. They’re pretty frequent so you’re not waiting too long.
I started off at the Sears Tower, and having completed the first complete “loop”, I stayed on and went to the Art District, then onto the Navy Pier and finally the John Hancock Tower before returning back to the Sears Tower. Some of my connections were on a trolley bus rather than the bus which made for an even more enjoyable way of seeing the city.
In a large city when there’s so much to see it’s sometimes better to actually stay on public transport and let the world pass the window rather than you having to walk past the world – and I found that this was very much the case with Chicago’s Hop On Hop Off tour.
